Earth embankment is generally the most economical answer to the problem of adapting road and rail routes to the morphology of the terrain and to the various requirements of vertical route geometry. When this is not possible because of the poor geomechanical quality of foundation ground or to the lack of suitable inert material for its construction, bridges or viaducts must be deployed with a resultant increase in costs which tend to double.
Cellular embankment, researched and developed by Rocksoil S.p.A., offers a very attractive alternative: it requires 90% less prime aggegrate material than traditional methods of embankment and transmits a load four times less to foundation ground..

The field of application of Cellular Embankment is as follows:
- road or rail environment;
- to replace traditional embankments on ground of poor geomechanical quality;
- to replace viaducts with a height of less than 8 m;
- to replace traditional embankments in areas lacking in quarries for aggregates;
- overall heights of between 4 and 10 metres without the need for drainage or foundations
